Summer Conference of East Asian Languages (SCEAL)
Director(s): Charles Quinn, Mari Noda, Mineharu Nakayama & Minru LiDeliverables: Three annual conferences and published proceedings
Project Description:
In conjunction with the Summer Programs, East Asian Concentration (SPEAC)—our intensive summer institutes for teacher training and language learning--—we invite scholars involved in language pedagogy, second language acquisition, and intercultural studies to present and attend sessions on issues involving the study of East Asian languages. For every topic in the program, we will include scholars from each of the East Asian languages and from disciplines such as second language acquisition, linguistics, psychology, and business. The purpose of this conference is to develop a common discourse among practitioners. In the next few years, we intend to host another conference on autonomous learning, and conferences on designing support databases for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean programs, on distance learning, on media literacy, and on study abroad.
